Services at Walker Funeral Chapel are set for 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) with Rev. Ernie Williams of First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

"He was born in Coleman on January 1, 1911 to Coleman pioneer family David and Mary Horne. He graduated from Coleman High School. On May 16, 1931 he married Pearl Jameson. He had lived in Coleman County all his life. He
was a rancher and member of the First Christian Church. Mr. Horne had been a member of the Coleman County Farm Bureau for 40 years and a past president; a member of the Breeder-Feeders, Coleman Jaycees and Talpa Lions Club. He had served on school boards for 36 years; 25 years on the Centennial School Board and 11 on a county school board.

"Survivors include his wife Pearl of Coleman; three daughters, Leta Pearl Brown of Midland, Mary Cecile Roberts and Edwina Hopper, both of Coleman; two step-daughters, Maurese Moore of Coleman and Mary Beth Hall of Galveston; six grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

"Pallbearers are Milford Roberts, Loyd Hopper, Leslie and David Fambrough, Wayne Roberts, Billy Yates, Robert Talley and Robert Jameson. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Francisco, Doyle Glasson, C.M. Huckabee, Max Horne and Charlie Gordon.

Mr. Rutherford was born April 19, 1919 in Fort Worth, Texas and passed away Oct. 10, 1996 in San Luis Obispo. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a Fireman 2nd class. Mr. Rutherford was an avid fisherman who took great pride in his outings with his kids and grandchildren. He also leaves behind his many fishing buddies whom he loved to swap stories with over coffee in the mornings. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, in 1978; a daughter, Candace, in 1991; and a sister, Cleo McKnight. Survivors include a sister, Florine Harper; five children, Jim Rutherford, Judith Casteel, Don Rutherford, David Rutherford and Katherine McDaniels (Tink); eight grandchildren, James, Mary, Scott, Jay, Joey Pam, Michael and Brandi; and nine great grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Clyde Edwards of Taft; a son, Jimmy Dale Edwards of Arkansas a daughter, Norma Sampels of Arkansas; three brothers, Danny Rutherford of Bakersfield, Don Rutherford of Tupman, and David Rutherford of Taft; two sisters, Judith Casteel, and Kathy Mcdaniels, both of Taft; a granddaughter, Iva Dale Sampels of Arkansas; and her father, John Rutherford of Oildale.
