2604. Francis Marion Bozarth

"Francis Marion Bozorth, son of Jeremiah Bozorth and 2/w Sarah Grieves, was born on February 17, 1835 in Grayson County, Kentucky. He married Louisa Lowery on June 13, 1869, probably in Grayson County. Louisa, the daughter of William R. Lowery and Elizabeth Long, was born October 10, 1838. His older brother, Jeremiah Washington Bozorth, married Louisa's sister, Nancy (Lowery) Long. Francis and Louisa were the parents of: John Frank, Julia Neel, William Leslie, Samuel J. Tilden, Catherine Lee and Sallie Lowery Bozarth.

After Louisa (Lowery) Bozorth's death on July 26, 1893, she was buried in the Barton Cemetery on West Market Street and Clagett Drive in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. Francis Marion Bozorth died at the home of his daughter Kate (Bozorth) Johnson in Daviess County on October 19, 1906 and was buried beside his wife in the Barton Cemetery in Leitchfield. His obituary published in the Grayson County "Gazette" follows:

OLD CITIZEN PASSES AWAY IN DAVIESS COUNTY
REMAINS BROUGHT HERE FOR BURIAL – FORMER COUNTY POOR HOUSE KEEPER
F. M. Bozarth, seventy two years of age, an old and highly respected citizen of this county died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Kate Johnson in Davis (sic) county on Oct. 19 (1906-VPB) of kidney disease. The remains were brought here and enterred (sic) in the Barton cemetery on last Saturday morning beside that of the wife who died here ten years ago. The deceased was well known here, having been at one time keeper of the county poor house for four years. He was a brother of Mrs. N. C. Tilford, she now being the only survivor of a family of eighteen children. / Elder J. B. Briney of the Christian church conducted the services at the grave, where a large number of relatives and friends gathered to offer ...(expressions?) of love and respect .... Simeon died 4 March 1855 in Clover Township, Henry Co., IL. She married Archibald C. Brown on 18 October 1855 in Henry County, Illinois.

His father, Simeon, died in 1855 and was buried on the farm. Later his father's remains, were reinterred 1/4 mile North to the cemetry established on the Clover Chapel Church grounds. His mother remarried and was also buried in Clover Chapel Cemetery. William's physical description 5 feet, 6 and 3/4 inches tall. Dark complexion and blue eyes. Death due to disease." Image.
