"On 10 March 1743/4, Mary Cook, "being in her seventy-seventh year of her age," personally appeared (on behalf of her grandson William Cook) before Philip Tabour, Justice of the Peace in Tiverton, and testified that her son Joseph Cook, deceased, was son to her husband Thomas Cook, deceased (Court Files, Suffolk, 58813).

173. WILLIAM5 COOK, son of Joseph Cook [61] and his wife Patience, was born 19 June 1722, probably at Tiverton, which until 1747 was in Massachusetts, and died there 7 September 1779. He was baptized with his mother at Trinity Church, Newport, 1 October 1730.

He married, first, ca. 1750, ROSE JENNINGS, daughter of John and Anne (Holway) Jennings, who was born 24 March 1732 at Tiverton and died before 1762. John Jennings in his will dated 26 May 1774 included the name of his granddaughter Rose Davol (Tiverton Probate 4:255).

William married, second, at Swansea, Mass., 10 October 1762, RUTH BROWN, (intentions published at Freetown). Record of her birth has not been found, and she may have been a widow. She evidently died before William, in 1779 or earlier. She may have had some family connections with the Smithfield area, where daughter Patience was married.‘."
