Dicy applied for a Mexican War pension as the widow of John P. Holland. The pension application was dated 30 Sep 1855

Clemens, Andrew J. Pvt/Co. G, 5th Inf. Enlisted 11/10/47 at Knoxville. Age 22. Left in hospital 1/30/48 at Vera Cruz.

"Over the Misty Blue Hills" by Ruth O'Dell names the Hollands as Methodists.

"Garden of the Plain:" Garden Plain, Kansas, 1884-1984. N. p.: 1984. (K978.1/-Se2/G167). "John served under Gen. Taylor in the Mexican War, was married, and also died, leaving children".
