Dr. Emanuel Weidler Carpenter

RESIDENCE: 1798 Cincinnati, OH; Residence, 1807, Lancaster Co, PA

According to the Fairfield County Chapter of OGS History of Lancaster, Ohio. The new town was called New Lancaster at the request of Emanuel Carpenter who came from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as did many of the predominately German early settlers.

Signed and witnessed the Constitution of the State of Ohio, done in the convention at Chillicothe, Ohio, the twenty-ninth day of November, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and two, and of the independence of the United States of America, the twenty-seventh. In testimony whereof for Fairfield County.


Mayor Michael Carpenter

Mayor of Lancaster, PA 1843-1852.

Information sent to T.Mason on 13 March 2009 by Sally Wagner with an update about the obituary on 27 August 2010.
DEATH: The "Lancaster Intelligencer" has an article on his death in the NOVEMBER 13, 1860 issue. This paper only came out weekly, on a Wednesday, but it states Micheal's funeral is to "tomorrow" which would have been Nov. 14.1860 (Thursday).

OBITUARY: Lancaster Intelligencer. November 6, 1860, page 2, under City and County Affairs. "Honorable Michael Carpenter, ex-Mayor of this city, died, after a lingering illness at his residence in North Prince Street, on yesterday morning, in the 67th year of his age. Mr. C. filled the position of Mayor form 1843 - 1852 with great credit to himself and acceptability to the people. He was a gentleman of the strictest integrity and honor, prompt in all the business relations of his life, and died, as he had lived, a humble and sincere Christian. His death will be generally regretted in this community as well as by a large circle of friends and relations."

Amos Carpenter

Following information sent to T.Mason by Salliann Wagner on 26 August 2010.

OBITUARY: Lancaster Examiner and Herald. Wednesday, October 7, 1846, page 3 under deaths. "In this city, on Thursday last, Mr. Amos Carpenter, son of Michael Carpenter, ESQ., Mayor of this city, aged 18 years and 27 days."


Israel Carpenter

In 1835 the family moved to Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois. However, Catherine and her older sister Maria both remained in Ohio as they married so they lived the rest of there lives in Ohio.


Susan Anne Hess

Susan Hess and Isreal Carpenter moved to Goshen, Indiana leaving Catherine with her husband in Ohio.
