Services for Ben Allen Burden, a member of the U.S. Army's last horse regiment, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Restland Abbey Chapel in Dallas. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park.
Mr. Burden died Sunday at the Buckner Ryburn Home for the Aging in Dallas. He was 83.

During World War II, he served in Europe with the 112th Cavalry, 10th Traffic Regulation Group. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

His wife, Emmie Marie Burden of Dallas, said Mr. Burden loved the time he spent in the cavalry and still had friends who were members of the Army's last horse regiment.

"He would always talk about how great it was to be with them," she said.

After the war, Mr. Burden worked at American National Insurance Co. for 25 years as a salesman and later worked for the Army-Navy Stores.

Other survivors include brother Cecil M. Burden of Dallas; sisters Bertha O. Kolleschnig and B.L. Berkey, both of Dallas, Cynthia M. Howell of Knoxville, Tenn., and Inez E. Deatherage of Wichita Falls; stepdaughter Dorthy Kerbow of Dallas; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
