Matthew Borden

1Weld, Hattie L. Borden, Borden, Richard & Joan,  who settled in Portsmouth R.I., Historical and genealogical record of the descendants..., Albany, N.Y. : Joel Munsell, [1899], pg 90, FHL US/CAN Film 512. "118. MATTHEW, born January 21, 1711. at Newport, Rhode Island. Married Hannah Clark, daughter of Samuel, of Jamestown, 1737. They had two sons and two daughters. Of these, his son William is the only one whose family has come down to the present century in the male line, but it still exists in the female line. His son William was formerly
a Justice of the Peace and town treasurer of Newport as early as 1783, and continued until about 1820, when he died. His son William commanded the brigantine Nicholas and Felix, of Newport, on a voyage to the West Indies about 1825, William Williams of Newport being supercargo. And as they were never heard from after leaving port it has been surmised that they were cut off by the pirates who infested the West Indies about that time. His death closed the male line of descent from Matthew Borden througli his son Joseph. S."
