According to the 1860 census of Sevier County, Tennessee, Dictrict 4, Joseph Snapp was a Miller and worth 14,000.00 which was a considerable sum of money at that time. His son William was a farmer worth $2,880.00, also a considerable holding for the day. John Snapp was also a farmer, and the son Joseph L. was a merchant. This Snapp family were slave holders.

Deed Book J, Page 629, Sevier County, Tennessee: On March 27, 1852 Robert H. Hodsen, owner of Rose Glen, sold to Joseph Snapp " a certain piece of land known as the Bitner mill seat in the state of Tennessee, Sevier County, 4th Civil District on the waters of the East fork of the Little Pigeon River".

The Joseph Snapp house on the East Fork of the Little Pigeon River, Sevier County, Sevierville, Tennessee is on the National Register of Historic Structures. That property remained in the hands of their heirs until 1971." Image.

Martha Oldham Thomas, age 87 of Maryville, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. She was a member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. Preceded in death by husband, Dr. Phillip C. Thomas; parents, Helen and Leslie Oldham of Knoxville; step son-in-law, Jim Guess of Atlanta.

Survived by sister, Carolyn Schrader of Maryville; step-daughter Marian Guess of Atlanta; several step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; cousins, Bob and Barbara Bailes of Maryville.

Family and friends will meet at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville for a graveside service with Dr. Marvin Gass officiating.

Friends may call at their at convenience at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center, 1901 Clinch Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37916.
