Jane Harper

1FindaGrave.com, https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=158269366. "Springhill, LA - Jane Harper Tidwell went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2016. Memorial services honoring her life will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 11:00 am. at Springhill United Methodist Church in Springhill, LA. Visitation will be at the church Friday, February 19, from 6-8 pm.

She was born in Ruston, Louisiana, on November 21, 1934, to Clyde and Lelia Harper. Mr. Harper moved the family to Springhill in 1940 as a Texaco consignee in the Northwest Louisiana area. Jane attended Springhill public school where she excelled both socially and academically, having won many awards in both. As a senior, she was named Valedictorian of her graduation class, winner of the coveted American Legion Award, named Most Likely To Succeed, and elected cheerleader. She also won her most cherished award of all, being elected football sweetheart by her 1952 state championship team. She went on to attend Louisiana Tech, where she received a degree in mathematics in 1956, and eventually obtained her Master's Degree plus 30 in Mathematics Education. She dedicated herself to and enjoyed a 31 year teaching career in the Louisiana public schools, which began at Springhill High School. After retirement in Louisiana, she accepted a math instructor's position at Southern Arkansas University for an additional decade followed by a two-year term of teaching at Bradley High School, Bradley, Arkansas. She was a long time member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society and a past President of the Webster Parish Louisiana Teachers Association. Among many other honors and recognitions, she received the Faculty Excellence Award For Teaching and was named Teacher of the Year at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, in 1999. She was named 2008 Bradley High School Teacher of the Year, and was inducted into the Springhill High School Alumni Hall Of Fame in 2012.

She loved teaching and was delighted by the successes of her students, especially those whom she knew could overcome personal struggles, adversities, and obstacles; and her teaching often went beyond the subject of math. She tried to make a difference in students'
lives when she could. She taught them to persevere and to achieve through her encouragement, care, and compassion, and she portrayed an example of leadership, respect, and responsibility. She was one with a high moral character.

Jane was an active member of Springhill United Methodist Church, where she loved serving her Lord in many capacities including the choir. She was an accomplished organist and pianist. She loved sewing and quilting, was a member of the Piney Needles Quilt Guild, but especially did she love the company of people associated with all her endeavors. She had a genuine love and concern for others. She was always curious, and she enjoyed the details of "what and why" in everything. She was a friend to many, a dedicated wife, and a loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lelia Harper, and is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Morgan Tidwell; a son and daughter-n-law, Jay, and wife Susan, of Bivins, Texas; a daughter, Nancy Ann Tidwell of Atlanta, Texas; five grandchildren, Kate Tidwell Reynolds and husband Matt, Laura Tidwell Schrom and husband Jared, Taylor Tidwell, Lindsay Welsh, and Chase Cummings; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ann Harper Bonner and Nancy Harper Driskill, both of Springhill, Louisiana.
