William Almy was one of the original inhabitants of Tiverton. He owned the 9th lot on Puncatest Neck, next to lot 10, owned by his brother—in~law John Cook, and for several years before John's death they were engaged in a legal battle over the boundary between the two lots.

The will of William Almy of Tiverton, dated 29 April 1747 and proved 3 August 1747, named his son Job, who received lands in Dartmouth; two children of deceased grandson John Almy who was son of deceased son John, Elisha and Anstice Almy; Benjamin Almy, Anstice Sayer, and Mary Greene, all children of deceased son John; son Samuel Almy, who received part of the homestead farm in Tiverton; and son William, who received the rest of the homestead. To grandson William Almy, son of Samuel, he gave land in Dartmouth and livestock. He named his wife, Hope, and left generous provision for her. Also named were his daughter Rebecca Slocum, granddaughter Amy Ellet, and grandson Job Almy, son of Elizabeth, deceased. To cousin [i.e. niece] Deborah Cook, he left £1000 and privilege of house room, victuals and drink for six years after his death (Tiverton Probate 2: 254-258)." Image.
