"Lieutenant Ollie E. Gibbs Jr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Gibbs, Sr. was born in Tift County and was graduated from Tifton High School in 1936. Later, he was graduated as an expert electrician from a college in Chicago. He volunteered for service in the Army Air Forces and received training in California, Arizona, and Louisiana. Choosing overseas duty to be with his "buddies", he was sent to Duxford, England. He sometimes flew two missions a day. On June 22, 1944, the P-47 plane, of which Gibbs was the pilot, developed propeller trouble and crashed. He was buried in Cambridge, England before being returned home."." Image.
