George Thomas

According to Ida Pauline Wade Thomas, her husband Robert, the son of Berry Franklin, had a cousin 10 years his senior. He acted like a brother to Robert Allen. The cousin's name was George Thomas. George had a son named Robert Lee. Robert Lee was a U.S. government trapper. He had a son who died at age 12. George's wife was Ella and she died in 1908 or 1910 in Davis, Okla.

   Surry G. Shaffer, Jr, 89, of Hot Springs Village formerly of Dallas, Texas departed his earthy home on November 30, 2014 to join his parents, Surry, Sr. and Blanche Shaffer, his sister Elizabeth Shaffer Brumage in their Eternal Home with their Lord. He was a devoted husband to his wife Dorothy (Dori) for over 64 years and the proud father of four children.
  After graduating from SMU, he entered the insurance business rising up into managerial positions in Insurance companies before starting and successfully operating his own Independent Insurance Agency for years before retiring to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in 1994.
  Both Surry and his wife enjoyed a full and active life raising four children, serving in leadership of their Church, community affairs and traveling in 63 countries performing humanitarian services of International Association of Lions Clubs.
   Surry was a Christian, devoted to his wife and family, his church, dedicating his life to humanitarian services, giving time for enjoying comradeship with his hunting and fishing Buddies, his fellow Masons and a true patriot of USA serving as an infantryman in the 45th Infantry Division in Europe (Battle of the Bulge) in WWII, awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge and two battle Stars.
   He took great pride in his service to his church, Masons (32*), Lions, Military Order of Purple Heart (Founder and 1st Commander of the Hot Springs Village Chapter) and Dallas Insurance Agents Association. Surry was the recipient of the highest recognition and award in the International Association of Lions Clubs. Out of a membership of 1,500,000 members worldwide, he was one of 29 elected to receive the Ambassador of Goodwill for humanitarian service.
   Surry is survived by his loving wife, Dori; sons, Surry Shaffer III and Ben Shaffer (Marcille); and daughters, Sallie Shaffer Moss (Bernie Smink) and De Shaffer.
  Memorial service with military honors will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 5th at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the Hot Springs Village Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hot Springs Village Lion Club, Christ of the Hills Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.


Walter Randall (Randy) Moss

MOTHER-DEATH: Information from Dori Shaffer; copy in possn of T.Mason; 8-Sep-1996; ; Randy's mother is Jane Withers, the child movie actress. There were 3 children, Bill Jr., Randy, and Wendy. Randy died of lung cancer.
