Jane Yeiser

OBITUARY: SHEETZ, JANE YEISER, a native of Owensboro, KY, passed away March 1, 2009. She was born September 28, 1923, in Owensboro, to the late Anna Logan and Kirtley Yeiser Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Sheetz; and a sister, Frankie Yeiser Birnie Arflack. Mrs. Sheetz is survived by a son, Mark R. Sheetz; and three brothers; Dean Yeiser, Danville, KY, Kirtley "Bud" Yeiser Jr., Utica, KY, and Dan Yeiser, Owensboro. She is also survived by a sister, Ada Yeiser Ecton, St. Petersburg, FL; and a stepson, Maurice Sheetz Jr.; along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sheetz was a member and past president of the Younger Women's Club of Owensboro, a member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi Alpha Chapter of Louisville and was a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of the St. Matthews Baptist Church. The body was cremated. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, in Grove Hill Cemetery, in Shelbyville, KY.

J. Cullie Brooking
Sterling - Funeral for J. Cullie Brooking, 74, retired farmer who move here three months ago from Cache, is pending at Cache Funeeral Home. Mr. Brooking died early today in a Lawton, Hospital.
Mr. Brooking was born July 22, 1899, at Lanno, Tex., and moved to Cache, where he lived most of his life, with his parents in 1906. He was a retired farmer and was married to Robbie L. Dooley on Oct. 21, 1920. She died in Nov. 24, 1968, and Mr. Brooking was married to Arklie Jeffery Aug. 16, 1973, in Lawton.
Survivors include his wife of the home, three daughters: Elva Youn, 715 Douglas, Lawton; Nelda Cox, Cache, and Janice Lindgren, 2907 N. 18th Lawton; one step-daughter, Anna Mae Hix, Apache; four sons: Oliver, Melvin and Clayton Brooking, all of Cache, and Dennis Brooking, Tipton; five step-sons: Bob and Claude Mansel, both of Sterling; Don Mansel, Elgin, and billy and Jack Mansel, both of Lawton; on brother, Leslie Brooking, Gore; on sister, Lela Havens, Marlow, and 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Wanda E. Burk

OBITUARY: Funeral for Wanda Burk Pickens Brookings, 82, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Antioch Baptist Church, south of Lawton, with the Rev. Vivian Garza, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. Brookings died Friday, May 18, 2007, in Lawton.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Lawton to James Marion and Alta Bradford Burk. She grew up in Lawton, and married Louis Pickens on July 18, 1942. They worked together at The Lawton Constitution and also delivered the Oklahoma City Times. After living in California, they returned to Lawton and bought a Maytag Washing Machine retail business. They later returned to The Lawton Constitution and delivered papers at Fort Sill. In 1949 they bought a farm in Faxon, and had many rental properties. She also began working in the grocery business, where she was employed for 30 years. She was employed by Mr. Whites at his grocery store, Elmo Lowe's, Grady Connor Grocery, Herb's, Piggly Wiggly, Winn Dixie, Humpty Dumpty, and Safeway. She also worked on the family horse ranch and a used car lot. She began working for Avon, Tupperware, Aveo Care Co., and Classic Creation Jewelry, Quality Gold. She also did estate sales and worked for Joey Stallings Auction and worked flea marketing and for Gaye Britton in the furniture business. She also sold carpet for Conway and Hale Floor Covering. She married Wayne Brooking on Sept. 4, 1984. At that time, she worked for Barbara's Demo NWC out of Dallas by setting up tables and giving out samples of foods at stores such as Sam's Wholesale, Kmart, and Wal-Mart.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: J.D. and Glenna Pickens, Tulsa; and L.D. and Cherri Pickens, Dallas; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Joyce Grayson, Yukon; Oleta and Paul Dean, Lawton; and Delores Ryans, California; four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Neal Burk, Geronimo; Tommy and Betty Burk, Duncan; Gene and Geraldine Burk, Lawton; and Jake and Violet Burk, Cache; four granddaughters and three grandsons-in-law: Patricia and Greg Howell, Stacy and Chris Shelton, Pam and Justin Pitts and Carrie and Paul Howard; a grandson, Rawly Pickens; nine great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Sharon Wallace, Faxon; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, R.D. Pickens.
