Christina C. (Kathryn) Yerks

RESEARCHER: The following was sent to T.Mason on 22 May 2005 by Brenda Breckenridge [brenda_breckenridge@yahoo.com]. "Christina Kathryn Yerks had a very difficult life. When she was 12, her father traded her to an old man for a wagon load of potatoes. The name of the old man was Hanning. He fathered 3 children with her and then died. Their names were Leon, Charles, and Barbara. The child welfare department came and took away Charles. He was adopted out to a family named Duncan. He lived in Ohio. Christina asked a neighbor couple (or they asked her) to take care of Barbara for a little while until she got on her feet. Barbara was a little baby. Well, that couple ran off and Barbara was never seen again. Christina managed to hold on to Leon somehow. A year or so later, Sterling Clifford Breckenridge came around and she got pregnant. He married her on 15 May 1916. Leon took the name Breckenridge. I don't know if he was officially adopted by Sterling or not. His middle name was Franklyn and he was born in 1909."

Charles Hadding Duncan
